Technical Mexico, Gerardo “Tata” Martinoand spoke after 3-0 win over Honduras At the Azteca Stadium by the fifth day of the Octagon CONCACAF course for Qatar 2022.
Martino was satisfied with the win, but was concerned that he ended the first half with a 1–0 win.
“After the second half where the opponent had one less player in a long period of time, we had a very good first half. The concern was not to increase the lead, which would have given us more peace of mind. Against Jamaica we also had control. On the match and in an unfortunate match they tied, we had that idea in mind because we couldn’t increase the score,” he said at a press conference.
Martino was asked what he had done to prevent his team from collapsing after starting to win the match.
“For us all these three years, except for the football players who were chosen to start a game, the exception was with Canada. We had to win or lose or draw and we were never passive, never held back or stopped fighting the opponent or let them play comfortably. The exception is That match and what we planned for is to return to what we have in good circulation and high pressure and today it is better.”
When asked what they have to do to add three of the four games that come to Tri to visit in this eight form.
“We try to do what we did today. Skip the fact that we’re visitors, skip situations like it’s so cold it might be in Cincinnati or Edmonton. We try to go out and look for games like we did, but today the only thing we budgeted for the next game, we’re not thinking outside El Salvador because That’s what we have in three days. We will try to prepare well for that match and win it.”
Confirmation of losses against El Salvador
He also confirmed that two people were injured in the match against the athletes, one because of the yellow color and the other because of the injury.
“Jorge Sanchez is practically excluded from the match with El Salvador, if this is confirmed he will not make the trip. The other case is Cesar Montes, who today got a second yellow. Whoever cannot play will not make the trip.”
Martino was also asked about the many goal options his team created against Honduras.
“Now that the match is over and the score is favorable, we welcome the volume of play and the many goal positions created. At the end of the first half we felt we left the opponent alive when we could have finished the match for the control we had and the positions we created,” he closed.
