London (CNN) – The Queen Isabel II She returned to Windsor Castle on Thursday after spending Wednesday night in hospital while undergoing “initial checks,” and will spend Friday resting and performing light tasks, a royal source told CNN Friday.

The Queen had to abruptly cancel a planned trip to Northern Ireland this week.

The 95-year-old UK spokesperson’s statement was taken to hospital on Wednesday and returned to Windsor Castle on Thursday.

“On medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen went to hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some initial check-ups, and is back at Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, in good spirits.”

A Buckingham Palace source told CNN that the hospital visit was not initially announced because it was short, noting that the Queen has a right to medical privacy.

The source said that the hospital stay was for practical purposes, adding that the medical team took a cautious approach.

The source added that the Queen returned to her office this Thursday afternoon and performed light duties.

She is the world’s tallest monarch, having presided over the country for nearly seven decades. Earlier this week, the Queen rejected a magazine’s attempt to award her Old Woman of the Year, saying she felt small at heart.
