Jashyah Moore has been found alive after going missing for nearly a month

(CNN) – Jashyah Moore who disappeared from his New Jersey home nearly a month ago, found safely In New York City, authorities said Thursday.

“It reminds us that the lives of black and brown girls are just as important as everyone else’s,” Attorney General Stevens said last week. “We know that Gabi Pettito, a notorious case that was constantly appearing in the news, and it yielded results and information. So we hope today’s efforts will come up with some information so we can find the Jashiya youths.”

While more attention and urgency has been given to cases of missing white women, people of color are disappearing at a disproportionate rate. Blacks make up 35% of missing person reports, but only 13% of the US population, according to 2020 FBI data. Meanwhile, whites make up 54% of missing person reports and 76% of the US population.
