Another high-tech takeover has been announced, with 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) purchasing Cogent at 18% above the share price.
Cogent Bought By 3M Company (NYSE:MMM)
3M Company (NYSE:MMM) has agree to a $943 million buyout of Cogent, a manufacturer of fingerprint identification systems for governments and civilian companies.
This comes as part of an effort by 3M (NYSE:MMM) to expand its security services products. The offer is for $10.50 a share, 18% over Cogent’s closing price on Friday.

Chevron Corporation, according to an Associated Press report today, spent $3.9 million through a subsidiary in the second quarter to lobby the federal government.
Lobbying was reportedly on issues affecting the company’s operations, such as climate change, oil industry taxes, according to a company report filed with the SEC. This amount is just above the $3.1 million the company spent in the first quarter.

Advertising costs at BP Plc (NYSE:BP) have sky-rocketed since the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, with the firm spending more than twice its previous budget.

According to some reports,BP (NYSE:BP) is spending $1 million a week on advertising and radio since the day of its Gulf of Mexico oil well explosion. Doing some quick math we see that should add up to about $18 million.
But even more shocking than that is the estimate from a Kantar Media report that is circulating on Madison Avenue, revealing that BP Plc (NYSE:BP) actually spent a staggering $65.7 million on ads in the second quarter (compared to just $24.6 million in the year-earlier quarter).
