Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – NBC’s “Community” is about to start its sophomore year and the community college-set comedy is bringing out the big guns for its second season: Betty White. Everything White touches as of late turns, well, “Golden” and her turn as anthropology professor June Bauer is no exception.
But if you tune in for the Betty, stay for the love triangle, which has had star Joel McHale’s character Jeff Winger having to choose between his gorgeous co-stars Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, and Lauren Stamile. And if that’s not your cup of tea, the show’s second season will feature guest spots from Drew Carey and Rob Cordroy, and will include a zombie-themed episode and a stop-motion animated holiday episode.
But while McHale, also host of E!’s weekly clip show “The Soup,” may joke that the sexual chemistry with White on set was palpable, the truth is she gets to have him in a chokehold by the end of the episode. That in itself makes it worth watching.
AHN: Joel, since you’ve kissed just about every female character on the show by now, I’m going to assume naturally that Betty or Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) is next in line?
Joel McHale: It’s been, believe me, a very strange year. My wife is like, ‘Who did you make out with today?’ And I’m like, ‘Funny you should ask.’ And it’s a very strange thing.
AHN: Alison, who are you rooting for to get Jeff?
Alison Brie: It’s a tough one. I kind-of choose not to take sides in that Annie versus Britta thing. I don’t know. I feel like there are pros and cons to both relationships and maybe Jeff does need to be on his own for a little while.
JM: Maybe Jeff has an accident and accidentally castrates himself and has to keep it a secret for years.
AHN: What upcoming scene do you think would be good to poke fun of on “The Soup”?
AB: There’s a fight scene, an Annie and Britta fight scene.
JM: Yeah, the fight scene would be good.
AHN: Or maybe Betty White kicking your ass?
JM: Yeah, that would be a good one too.
The second season of NBC’s “Community” premieres Thursday, September 23rd at 8pm.
